A quick stroll down the electronics aisle at any major store will reveal the latest and greatest new televisions. With the bright, crisp pictures on display, it’s easy to see why LCD televisions have become increasingly popular over the last few years.
Before you take the plunge though, there are a few things you will want to consider. Everything from selecting the right size for the room, to pixel count should be given attention prior to purchase. For the purposes of this article, we’re going to show you some of the “pros and cons” of owning an LCD TV. Let’s get to it.
Positive Points to LCD
1. Flat panels provide a clearer display
2. Lights will not degrade the television because LCD’s don’t use phosphorus
3. You can view the LCD from any angle
4. The display is digital so the images are of higher quality
5. The LCD technology will block light in red, green and blue to create better images
6. It requires less energy to operate
7. There isn’t as much heat emitted compared to a standard television
8. LCD can play in many different formats such as HD, VOOM, or CES
9. No more old cathode ray picture tube, the pixels are digitally addressed
10. The surfaces of the TV’s are usually non-reflective
11. The flat screen television can fit just about anywhere in your room
12. Connections are out of sight
13. They can be hung anywhere, even the ceiling
14. These televisions aren’t as fragile
15. Some can be rolled away into the wall or special entertainment center when they are not in use
16. With less heat and less power you have a lower risk of fire and less need for proper ventilation
Negative Points to LCD
1. The screen size selection is limited (Compared with plasma or CRT televisions – most LCD televisions max out at 50 inches)
2. Cost is higher for LCD (Although the prices are quickly dropping)
3. There is a delay in the LCD that occasionally causes action in fast motion to blur
4. Sometimes the color black is not as deep and inky when compared with plasma (Although higher end units seem to remedy this fairly well)
In Conclusion…
LCD TVs have come a very long way in the past few years, and with the latest price drops making way for the LED market it looks like now is the time to strike if your wanting a great TV for a low price.
