Man Cave Must Haves

It’s time folks!! We all have a TV in our Man Cave but how many of us have a nice wall projector for that great Cave Theater experience? Well it’s time to review a few of the beasts and see what all the outside world has to offer. I like to call it our own little slice of Man Cave Heaven.

A common misconception when it comes to projectors is they cannot get the resolution that a normal TV can get. This is not true at all. You can easily find quite a few projectors that get just as high of resolution as your favorite Big Screen TV (Full 1080p) at half the cost. Plus with the right environment you can get a picture that is twice the size of the biggest TV’s! One thing you do have to keep in mind when buying a projector is what kind of lighting do I have in my Man Cave? The reason you need to ask yourself this question, is how much light you have in the room WILL reflect on a projectors picture quality! Have you ever been over to a buddies house and wondered how he has speakers half the size of yours yet it seems to sound 100 times better? It’s time to do something about it! It’s time to talk about how you can get the best sound for your Man Cave while still keeping within your budget.

The first thing you need is a surround sound system. Now for those of you that are new to the surround sound arena let me give you a few tips.

1. You don’t need to buy the most expensive system to get great sound! (although it is good to have some high quality speakers.)
2. Know what you want! Do you want Dolby Digital® 5.1, Dolby TrueHD® 7.1, or DTS®
3. What is the size of your room? Do you know if you are going to go wireless or not? (this is technically one question. Based on the room size and shape you may opt to go wireless.)
4. You need to know how much you can spend before going out and setting up a system. Do your research to know exactly how much it will cost for what you want so there are no surprises.
5. Get ready to live!

Now that you have figured out exactly what you want how do you go about choosing? Well you could take your friend who has the great sounding surround already… Or you can jump online and see what others have gotten and how they rate the things in your price range. Amazon is my favorite place to buy electronics and other random things. Usually when I am shopping for, well, almost anything, I start out by going to Best Buy, HH Gregg or even Wal-Mart, and  then I come home and buy that item from Amazon at a much lower price most of the time. One of my other favorite web sites is htmarket.com. This website has given me some great ideas. They can be a bit pricey but often have great deals and great coupons sent to your email.

These two companies have everything that you can think of when making a Man Cave. HTmarket has great bundle deals that meet any budget.  An item to check out is the Buttkicker. It mounts inside your sofa or chair and gives you a different movie or gaming experience every time it hits. The Buttkicker starts out at about $430.  Still, I recommend searching for anything you consider buying on Amazon’s site first to find the best deal, but between these two web sites you can get plenty of ideas and in most cases save some money.

So the age long dilemna in every Man Cave has been Foosball table or Pool table (don’t get us started on darts, thats a whole different post!)? Well for the purpose of this exciting little foray into the man cave psychy let’s talk pros and cons! First you should learn about the history of both sports.

Now that you’ve read the exciting history of the two sports we can summarize them both in one word, and that one word is “Awesome”!

Now to make any major decisions you have to ask yourself a few simple questions like

1. How much room does my Man Cave Have?
2. Is my Man Cave inside a frat house, and if so is the said table going to be used for beer pong tournaments as well? (Very important question!)
3. Do my friends mind the one wall that will make almost any shot impossible?
4. Do I need ample room (on said table) to sit my beer and cigarettes while I play a game?

When searching for some non-traditional wall decor for my own man cave, I came across a company out of California called Blik. This company offers licensed designs from Nintendo, and Giant Robot, to name a few, and it also includes graphics to fit any man cave design. You must check out this site for some amazing wall graphics that are easily applied in less than an hour. The graphics stick onto your wall and can be removed and re-used again and again.

My favorite wall graphic is the Mario Brothers old school setting. I also like that you can design your own graphics and this company will print them for you to be able to stick onto your wall. This company has by far the most creative way to liven up a man cave that I’ve seen. I would like to see some reader comments for favorite graphics from the Blik website.
